GOLDEN SPRING REEDS
GOLDEN SPRING REEDS
The warm glow of brackish marsh simmering in the mid-morning spring sun. A novel memory forgotten through a long dark winter. Marsh Harriers play above, crying out in joy.
North Norfolk — a haven for wildlife. What to do with a couple of days off?
Battery at 100%, water bottle filled, tripod over my shoulder — let’s go.
I walked through an avenue of hedgerows, listening for any hint to pause. A Robin, Great Tit, and Blue Tit. A family of Long-Tailed Tits. A Red Kite overhead, then Canada Geese. It was getting more exciting: Wren, Chiffchaff... Was that a Bullfinch?
Eventually, the hedgerows thinned, and I stepped out of the shade to bask in the mid-morning sun. Pausing, I gazed out across the marsh, watching the heat haze rise like a fiery backlight in shimmering waves.
