FREEZING BREEZE
FREEZING BREEZE
With the UK gripped by exceptional sub-zero temperatures, wetlands felt suspended like a held in breath. Flora immobilised by an erupted exoskeleton of icy spines.
I took this picture at RSPB College Lake, a nature reserve in Buckinghamshire, England. It was day two of a sudden spell of cold weather, ice, and frost. Everywhere you looked, the landscape was blanketed in shades of white. With a day off, I bundled up warmly and set out with my camera, eager to capture wildlife against the spectacular wintery backdrop. However, nature had other plans — there was no fauna to be found!
The real joy of that day was how it opened my eyes to the beauty of flora, encouraging me to take pictures I might not have considered otherwise. The result: a collection of images, one of which is Freezing Breeze.
